Aesthetics treatments?

Common Complications We Address

No aesthetic treatment is entirely without risks. While complications are rare when performed by qualified professionals, it’s essential to understand the potential issues and how they can be addressed. Below is a list of common complications, their symptoms, and how they are typically managed.

Swelling and Bruising

Swelling & bruising

Swelling and bruising are common after injectables, especially in sensitive areas like the lips or under the eyes. Most resolve on their own within a few days to a week.

Symptoms:
Localised swelling, discolouration (blue or purple tones), tenderness.

Management:
Cold compresses, over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications, or arnica gel can help. Persistent or worsening swelling may require professional assessment.

Lump Formation (Nodules)

Lump Formation (Nodules)

Lumps or bumps may occur due to uneven filler placement, swelling, or granulomas (a rare immune response).

Symptoms:
Palpable lumps under the skin, visible asymmetry, or discomfort in the treated area.

Management:
Gentle massage (if recommended by a professional). For persistent lumps, the use of hyaluronidase (filler dissolver) or further correction with additional filler. Corticosteroid treatment for granulomas if indicated.

Asymmetry

ASYMMETRY

Minor asymmetry can result from natural variations in facial anatomy or uneven product distribution.

Symptoms:
Visible differences in treated areas, such as uneven lip volume or cheek height.

Management:
Assessment to determine whether additional filler or adjustment is needed. Use of advanced techniques like ultrasound guidance to refine results.

Infection

INFECTION

Although rare, infections can occur at the injection site if sterile techniques are not followed or if aftercare instructions are not adhered to.

Symptoms:
Redness, warmth, swelling, pain, or pus at the treatment site. Fever or general malaise in severe cases.

Management:
Immediate evaluation by a medical professional. Prescription antibiotics or drainage of abscesses as required.

Vascular Occlusion

A rare but serious complication where filler inadvertently enters or compresses a blood vessel, reducing blood flow to the surrounding tissue.

Symptoms:
Sudden blanching (whitening) of the skin, severe pain, or a mottled appearance in the treated area. Left untreated, this can lead to tissue damage.

Management:
Immediate use of hyaluronidase to dissolve the filler. Massage and warm compress to promote blood flow. In severe cases, hyperbaric oxygen therapy may be required.

Prolonged Redness or Irritation

Occasional prolonged redness, itching, or irritation can occur, especially in those with sensitive skin or mild allergic reactions.

Symptoms:
Persistent redness, itching, or dry patches around the treated area.

Management:
Topical treatments to soothe the skin. Antihistamines for mild allergic reactions. Professional consultation if symptoms persist beyond 7-10 days.

Dermal Filler Migration

dermal filler migration

Filler migration occurs when dermal filler moves away from the intended injection site, causing unevenness or unwanted fullness in adjacent areas.

Symptoms:
Symptoms include swelling, puffiness, or lumps in areas beyond the treated site, as well as an uneven or unnatural appearance.

Management:
Seek advice from a trained medical practitioner to assess the extent of migration and determine the best course of action.
